Power to the People

Posted on: January 18, 2014

Hello again, my loves.

Here is a wonderful jam to set the tone to today’s post:

I am currently helping a friend plan a protest in Chicago (Save the lions! More details to come :) ), therefore I thought I would share some awesome resources I have come across.

  • A fantastic article on where to protest in Chicago (Fun fact: I work by the Thompson Center and the sounds of protesters always put a smile on my face):

  • A great, detailed PDF on planning a protest (good points on publicizing):

  • Stay positive! “Don’t get discouraged if you’re the only one who shows up — ride out the protest solo”

  • You can never go wrong with About.com (cover your basis!):

  • Good PDF that includes different kinds of demonstrations and creative ideas:

All right people, find a cause you care about and make it happen!  Because those who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the one’s that do, am I right? (Thank you Steve Jobs ;) )

To close, here is a lovely poem that seems to sum it all up.

Children of the Revolution

We, the children of this revolution,
Who came to it all from fields afar
Not born beneath a dissident star
Of parents dressed in shades of green
Found we belonged only in between
So, here we stand, and here we’ll fall
We’ll die together, or not at all
We, the children of this revolution
Who carry our books instead of swords
Who taught ourselves, despite it all
Who search for truth wherever it lies
And see the world through suspicious eyes
Here we stand, and here we’ll fall
We’ll die together, or not at all
We, the children of this revolution
Who rage against the winds of change
That tear us apart but remain the same
Against lies, deception and rented suits
Polished smiles and blood stained boots
Here we stand, and here we’ll fall
We’ll die together, or not at all
For we, the children of this revolution
Who thought we were the only ones
No friends, no brothers, no loaded guns
Bring only the scars and shoes on our feet
But we’ll never give in, we’ll never retreat
For here we stand, and here we’ll fall
And we’ll die together or not at all
We, the children of this revolution
Who refuse to have ourselves defined
By race, religion, or national pride
Who will not let these things divide
Who will not hate by their design
Hold our hands across the wall
Because here we stand, and here we’ll fall
And we’ll die together, or not at all

Always with so much love,

Paige
